The Company:

Founded in 1975, GKY & Associates, Inc. (GKY) is an established water resources engineering, policy & planning, and environmental services consulting firm in Virginia. We are currently seeking to add a Senior Project Manager to our growing practice in the water resources arena. This position will be based in GKY’s Chantilly, Virginia office or Newport News, Virginia office. Hybrid or virtual work might be available depending on the qualifications and capabilities of the applicant.

The Opportunity:

The successful applicant will manage and perform the engineering duties required for water resources projects. The position includes “doing” as well as “managing”, and most of our projects support government clients throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Manage stormwater, hydrology & hydraulics, and floodplain management projects
  • Provide technical leadership and assistance
  • Direct teams to produce high-quality deliverables, on time and within budget
  • Perform QA/QC checks and apply production SOPs
  • Write and edit reports and technical memoranda
  • Develop and maintain client relationships
  • Mentor engineering staff

 Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with course work in water resources (including hydrology and hydraulics)
  • Current Professional Engineer license in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • 8+ years of professional experience in performing and managing relevant projects
  • Report and technical memoranda writing, editing, and production (including editing text written by other staff),
  • Proficiency with Office 365 apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, ability to pass a DMV record check, and be insurable
  • Must be dependable, responsible, and have good communications skills
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

 Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Mapping and data analysis using ESRI GIS software
  • Contract and task order management, including fee proposal development
  • Project delivery for Virginia state and local clients
  • Technical staff mentoring
  • FEMA processes and floodplain management
  • Computer modeling, hydrology and hydraulics, and floodplain management using EPA SWMM, PCSWMM, and HEC-RAS

Programming (Python, VBA, SQL) and database (MS Access) experience is helpful.
