GKY President Stu Stein, PE, D.WRE will be presenting at North Carolina State University on February 6, 2023. Stein will speak to members of the campus chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) regarding 2D hydraulic modeling and flooding resiliency. He will describe recent advances in technology, including the latest versions of programs such as PCSWMM, and increases in computing speed that allow for the creation of highly accurate hydraulic models of urban flooding. Such models illustrate the movement of stormwater across the land surface and its flow into and within the local drainage system. The talk will also explore the use of 2D models, incorporating real world examples drawn from GKY’s experience serving Virginia municipalities. Case studies will include local drainage issues, watershed-wide resiliency planning, and hydraulic design that accounts for future climate change.
